In North Carolina: Election Official Resigns after Refusing to put Marriage up for Vote

Director of Elections Sherre Toler did something phenomenal. She quit her job for gay rights.
The elections director in socially conservative Harnett County has resigned, saying she could not in good conscience preside over the upcoming vote on a proposed amendment to the state constitution banning same-sex marriage.

Sherre Toler says her romantic relationship with a man of a different race cemented her belief that the civil rights of couples in love should not be put to a popular vote.
She is right. Marriage should not be put up for a vote. I hope folks in the NC are paying attention to this. Thank you, Sherre for standing for real justice and the civil rights.

While it's a brave and admirable move, I have never understood how quitting a position of influence helps the cause you're trying to support. Not only does it quiet a voice, it creates an opportunity for the other side.

Yes, I hope they take note, and someone reaches out and hires her.

If this hold any weight, it sounds like a catch 22.
